Filing Due Date
Form 990-N is due every year by the 15th day of the 5th month after the close of your tax year.
You cannot file the e-Postcard until after your tax year ends.
Example: If your tax year ended on June 31, the e-Postcard is due November 15 of the year. If the due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday or a legal holiday, the due date is the next business day.
Late Submissions
If we don't receive your submission by the due date, a reminder will be sent to the address on file. Organizations should submit the required form, even if they are late. There is no penalty for late submissions.
While there is no penalty assessment for filing Form 990-N late, organizations that fail to file required Forms 990, 990-EZ or 990-N for three consecutive years will automatically lose their tax-exempt status. Revocation of the organization's tax-exempt status will happen on the filing due date of the third consecutively-missed year.

A not-for-profit corporation may be formed under the Not-for-Profit Corporation Law as a “charitable corporation” or a “non-charitable corporation” unless it may be formed under any other corporate law of New York State (See Not-for-Profit Corporation Law section 201). A not-for-profit corporation may not be formed for pecuniary profit or financial gain. The Department of State's Division of Corporations is responsible for filing and maintaining certificates filed by the Department of State for not-for-profit corporations pursuant to the Not-for-Profit Corporation Law §402. You must have a DOS ID #.
Most organizations that have charitable assets or engage in charitable activities in New York or solicit charitable contributions (including grants from foundations and government grants) in New York are required to register with the Charities Bureau, via the online portal below. If an organization believes it is exempt from registration requirements, there is an opportunity to claim an exemption through the registration portal. After you've completed the IRS 990 or 990ez you are required to submit it to the Charities Bureau with the NYS AG's Office you can do this electronically via this same link:
